why are the MB different?

why are the MB different?

Probably because your video card uses "shared memory" & 64MB is loyal to its usage.

You can confirm this by reading the specs of your PC and/or looking in the BIOS.

*** I look at the answers after me & can't believe how plentiful people are missing this ..... it's of late 64MB being allocated to the graphics adapter at bootup ... that's adjectives ! ***

Companies usually lounge on the size of the drive, plus the computer does not completely accurately judge the drives size.
When chips are tested, some of the memory bits may not work. There are specs that mfgs step by and if the specs say pass by at x amount of memory, the chip hits the market. Its not odd to find chips that dont have what they say-so. Cheaper mfgs have wider guidelines.
960mb is the useable size. Your physically enjoy 1gb (1024mb), but can only use 960mb. No belief why, all my computers are similar.
That is showing you available memory...

window needs a faultless amount of memory to run... so it wont give it up... so you solitary have 960 of availble knock against in your system to use for other programs...

moral luck...
1024 - 960 = 64mb, probably shared graphics.
