Why does my computer crash next to 3 beep after a couple of days of sitting decline?

I built a system using an Intel Desktop Board D955XCS and an Intel Pentium 4 640 Prescott 3.2GHz processor, and loaded Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 OEM. The system, sitting vacant in Windows, crashes after 3 days - three long beep like a doomed to failure POST code, the screen go dark, and the system can single be reset with a frozen power-cycle. Does this sound similar to the motherboard may be bad? Or the CPU? We are using the CPU fan/heatsink that come with the chip.

Thank you.

You need to vision your system logs to find out what the error is that is cause the shutdown.

Go to "Start"

Click on "Control Panel"

Select and double click "Administrative Tools"

Select and double click the "Event Viewer" icon.

In the right paw pane double click "System"

This will display entries that your system makes during average operation.

There are three to four types of entries. The ones in red denote critical stop errors. You will see a column that indicates the time that these events took place. You can right click on any of these events and select properties to seize a detailed description of what took place on any of these events.

Click on the critical stop error that took place at the time your system shut down, and select properties for that event. In the box that appears it is possible to get more information from the internet if the box doesn't provide enough information. Many of these events will pocket you to Microsft.com and will describe the error in detail. It will usually afford instructions on steps to take to correct these errors also.
